Dr. Van Wyk is a hand and upper extremity specialist actively practicing in Fort Worth since 1977. Dr. Van Wyk is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and has practiced in that specialty. He passed the added qualification in hand surgery exam and has limited his practice to 100% hand and upper extremity surgery.
Upper Extremity Surgery: Elbow, Forearm, Wrist & Hand
Upper extremity surgery in his practice is the elbow, forearm, wrist and hand. As a hand specialist, he sees approximately 300 hand patient visits per month in his office and performs on average 90-100 surgical procedures per month. Dr.Van Wyk is a member of the American Society for Surgery the Hand, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Fort Worth-Dallas Hand Association, the American Medical Association, and the Tarrant County Medical Association. He passed the added qualification in hand surgery exam in 1979.
Hand Surgeon to Professional Athletes, Musicians and You!
He has given instructional course lectures to hand surgeons through the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and taught orthopedic and plastic residents. His practice has been involved in the treatment of many high-level professional athletes and musicians. He has been the hand surgeon for the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for several years. He has been named one the best doctors in the US and the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the last 20 years. In 2014, Dr. Van Wyk was named by Becker’s ASC Review as one of the “100 Physician Leaders to Know in the ASC Industry.” He is on the Texas Health Resourses Board of Managers in Fort Worth.
Active Community Role in Medicine, Arts and Education
Dr. Van Wyk is one of the founders and majority shareholders of the Fort Worth Surgery Center of which he was medical director for twenty six years and member of the executive and finance committees. He is a minority owner of the Baylor Surgical Hospital of Fort Worth. In years past, Dr. Van Wyk has been on the board of the Fort Worth Country Day School, the First Methodist Church, Healthsouth Orthopedic Board, and the young member development board of the Modern Art Museum.
Family and Current Interests
Dr. Van Wyk is currently a member of the board of governers of Shady Oaks Country Club and has served on the member selection committee of Rivercrest Country Club in the past. Dr. Van Wyk and his wife have been married for 43 years and have two grown children. Dr. Van Wyk’s major interest, outside of medicine, family and children, is maintaining his low single digit handicap in golf. Although he has participated in tennis, skiing, fishing and many other activities, golf remains his focus when not practicing medicine.
