1. What is hand and upper extremity (arm) surgery?
Upper extremity surgery is a specialized field of medicine focusing on the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow also called the upper extremity. We treat everything from the elbow to the finger tips.
2. Do you only do surgery?
No. Although Dr. Van Wyk is trained as an orthopedic hand and arm surgeon, many of the conditions he treats do not require surgery. Once you have been diagnosed both you and Dr. Van Wyk will determine the appropriate treatment plan.
3. Where are you located?
My office is conveniently located in the Fort Worth Hospital District at 803 West Terrel, Fort Worth, Texas 76104. The free standing office is ground level without stairs and the parking is free right in front of the building.
4. What insurances do you take?
We accept most major insurance plans, including Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United Health Care, and Medicare. These are subject to change, so please call our office at 817-877-3113 to confirm if we are on your insurance plan. We do not accept Obama Care or Medicaid.
5. What do I need to bring to my appointment?
You (or your responsible party) should bring a photo identification and insurance cards to every appointment. Also, it is helpful to bring any previous medical records, include items such as actual x-rays or other imaging studies to help us understand your situation, move your appointment along, and avoid unncessary duplication of medical testing. We also recommend that you have a current list of your medications. For your convenience the registration information can be filled out before your visit. We tell you the ways to do that on this web site.
6. Do you treat children?
Yes. Dr. Van Wyk treats children of all ages.
7. Where do you operate?
Dr. Van Wyk operates at the Fort Worth Surgery Center at 2001 Rosedale near I 30 and Forest Park 817-877-4777 for outpatient surgery. He operates at Baylor Surgical Hospital at 750 12th Avenue 817-334-5050 for outpatient and inpatient surgeries. Dr. Van Wyk owns a portion of both of these hospitals and has helped develop and manage them over the years.
